What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure for your skin. Your Regenerative Skin Master uses a sterile, single-use only, surgical grade blade in a strategic pattern and specific number of passes to safely and effectively exfoliate the surface of your skin. This calculated process removes dead skin cells and vellus hair, leaving your skin smooth as glass and soft as butter!

Dermaplaning vs. dermabrasion vs. microdermabrasion vs salt facial: What’s the difference?

Dermaplaning, dermabrasion, microdermabrasion and the salt facial are all skin resurfacing procedures. Each procedure uses different tools and takes off different amounts of dead skin. Dermaplaning uses a surgical grade blade to remove dead skin. Dermabrasion is a deep, surgical procedure that removes multiple layers, not just dead skin. Microdermabrasion uses a diamond-tipped wand or crystals to exfoliate the skin surface. The salt facial treatment exfoliates dead skin by blasting salt forcibly out of a treatment wand onto your skin.

Who can receive this treatment?

Dermaplaning is colorblind – all ethnicities and gender can benefit and enjoy this professional treatment, barring certain health contraindications. While Dermaplaning is fantastic for anyone, this is a beautiful way to begin a technologically driven skin program.

You may consider dermaplaning if you have skin concerns such as:

  • Acne scars
  • Actinic keratosis
  • Dull skin
  • Peach fuzz (light, soft hair on your face)
  • Skin damaged by sun exposure
  • Fine lines

Who shouldn’t have Dermaplaning?

Some contraindications are:

  • Active or healing Cold sore/Herpes break out
  • Eczema (patches can be worked around)
  • Psoriasis (patches can be worked around)
  • Skin burns, such as those from radiation therapy
  • Fresh sun burn
  • Skin rashes (contact dermatitis or unknown – can be scheduled once healed)

Will it make my hair grow back thicker or will there be more of it?

Hair is DNA programmed to grow Vellus or Terminal, meaning baby fine or thick. Unless there is a health condition and/or medication that changes your hair growth quality and amount, there will be no change to the hairs after Dermaplaning. Keep in mind that every hair grows at different rates, so when you remove it consistently, it can appear that there is more hair growing. This is not the case – your hair is simply growing out in a more uniform manner. Blunt cut hair tends to appear thick when it grows out a tiny fraction above the skin surface, but once it grows a touch further, the normal thinness or thickness that it is DNA programmed to be will become evident.

What happens during Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning, when properly performed, is completely painless. You might feel a slight scratchy or tingly sensation on your skin. A certain number of passes at specific angles are performed. The number of passes depends on the area being treated and the condition of the skin in that area.

Technically there is no downtime, as you can resume most activities after your treatment. Please avoid hot water, sauna, swimming, heavy cardio, sweaty activities, alcohol and/or recreational activities, and direct sun to your face for the remainder of the day. Please work out prior to, not after, your Dermaplaning treatment. Please do not exfoliate for one week post treatment. Keep your skin moisturized and protected, and your body hydrated. Note: Avoid getting a suntan or using self-tanning lotion and spray tan for 1 week before and after your appointment. A full set of post-treatment instructions are explained to you and emailed.

How do I maintain my results?

Following our suggestions for homecare and your post treatment instructions will extend the results you gain from each treatment. Your professional treatments should be received once a month to keep your skin super-smooth and maintain healthy, vibrant, Youthified skin.

How often can I receive a Dermaplaning and can I combine it with other treatments?

Our general rule of thumb is once per month. Sometimes, a series of treatments received more than once per month is necessary.
