What Really Happens Inside a Mild Hyperbaric Chamber Session

Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber session at IT Intelligent Treatment

The oxygen dose and pressure matter. Going above recommended levels can increase the risk of oxygen toxicity or ear barotrauma. That’s why our chamber is designed to safely regulate and maintain optimal pressure throughout the session.

While you sit comfortably in the chamber, pure pressurized oxygen travels deep into your body. It reaches all the way to the mitochondria, where your cells produce energy. The key difference between this and breathing normal air is the higher oxygen pressure inside the chamber.

We measure oxygen levels with a fingertip oximeter before and after treatment. These readings may stay the same or fluctuate briefly afterward as your body readjusts from high-pressure oxygen to normal room air. The oximeter measures oxygen carried on red blood cells but doesn’t detect the extra oxygen dissolved in plasma. This can be one reason why the numbers can wobble temporarily.

It’s rare that these benign drops in pulse oximetry happen, but when they do, we keep you in the clinic a while longer to continue monitoring your levels. If new or worsening symptoms occur, like dyspnea, chest pain, cyanosis, confusion, or severe headache, we recommend seeking additional medical attention.

Patients often report benefits such as:

  • Instantly brighter, glowing skin
  • Healthier skin and hair growth
  • Improved cognitive function and mental clarity
  • Better sleep quality
  • Faster wound healing and physical recovery
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Enhanced immune function
  • Better overall energy and holistic wellness

What to expect during a session:

You’ll be seated comfortably inside the chamber. Phones or tablets are fine to bring, but please avoid laptops or headphones.

It takes about 10 minutes after sealing the chamber for the pressure to build. During this time, your ears may feel pressure similar to airplane takeoff. We advise to simply equalize as you would on a flight.

Relax for about 60 minutes. You can nap, breathe deeply, or enjoy a show on your device.

When the session ends, we’ll slowly depressurize the chamber over about 10 minutes to ensure comfort and avoid ear discomfort. This is the same as when a plane is landing. After your session, you’ll enjoy the peaceful feeling of having had a good night’s sleep with reduced brain fog.
